Artificial intelligence has become an integral part of everyday life. Yet while many young people use generative AI on a regular basis, research shows that they often overestimate its reliability, lack an understanding of its limitations, and are unsure how to use it in a responsible and ethical manner. There is also a growing risk that key skills such as critical thinking, creativity and agency are being outsourced to machines.
This keynote explores why AI literacy has become essential in education and what it entails. It examines the impact of AI on learning, discusses implications for the English classroom, and offers insights into how we can empower students to work with AI rather than simply relying on it.
